Accusations that NBA player Daniel "Boobie" Gibson punched a man in the face come after a troubled season for the former Cleveland Cavaliers guard, who is married to R&B singer Keyshia Cole. Gibson, who told TMZ that he looks forward to being vindicated in the July 8 incident, turned himself in Monday in New Orleans on charges that he broke someone's jaw at a club in the 300 block of Andrew Higgins Street.

The incident, which took place while Gibson was attending Essence Fest, is the latest in a series of road bumps for the 27-year-old.?A March fan letter to Plain Dealer writer Mary Schmitt Boyer revealed that Gibson?had missed playing time as he dealt with a personal issue.?Boyer wrote that Gibson "has been a true professional throughout, always working hard in rehabilitation and trying to avoid -- unsuccessfully -- additional injuries."

On April 20, after the Cavaliers' last game of the season, Gibson told The Plain Dealer's Jodie Valade that he didn't want to leave the Cavs after his worst season.?

The Cavaliers did not end up renewing Gibson's contract, however. ESPN showed that Gibson was owed over $4.7 million in the final year of his contract.

Others are taking note of Gibson's New Orleans arrest:

Bleacher Report also noted that Gibson's statistics have been on a slide recently.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the Cavs said they would have no comment about the free-agent guard, and neither Gibson nor agent Andy Miller responded to texts from The Plain Dealer.

Gibson issued a statement about his arrest to TMZ.com., maintaining his innocence in the incident.
